First day back at the gym after three weeks of slacking off*
==
pain

* Because I went all emo after that latest time the scale failed to reflect the ($numCalsBurned/3500 == $lbsLost) I kept stubbornly expecting. In my own defense, "Fitness for Dummies", and several websites led me to the 3500cals/lb idea... I didn't just make it up.

Yes... as a couple of people pointed out back then... I'm stupid.

('Cuz I've been wanting to rant about this every time I step on the scale, but am usually too tired by the time I make it the rest of the way home, but the topic came up elsewhere...)

What I don't get is...

October of last year, I had my: "What the fuck am I doing to myself" moment, bought "Fitness for Dummies", joined 24 Hour, and cut out a good portion of the junk food from my diet. I've been very good about going at least three, but usually four, times a week; doing a bit over an hour of cardio and a half of weights every time; and aside from the occasional protein craving and some naughtiness around the holidays and my birthday, not increasing what I eat...

You know those little fuzzy white things that mysteriously appear in your world every other week? The ones that scamper around, squeak a bit, jump, run, and generally try to get away from you? The things you're currently ignoring; until I have to fish them out, hoping that you won't realize what they're for when my hand is in there with them (and you); and occasionally die from fright? Those are mice. They are your FOOD!

So, as of 12:52 PM eastern time today, my application to the JET program is in the hands of Japan's embassy in Washington DC. Now, two months of bering a nervous stressed-out spaz... as I scrambled to get my application materials together, reference letters in hand, and that bloody statement of purpose written, all before the 12/04 deadline... ceases.

.... not bad enought to call it a sprain, really, just enough for it to be sore and annoying. Time to track down the Tiger Balm, thinks I. But poop.... that's the second time in as many weeks that I wind up breaking out an old raver toy and using it for its "intended" purpose. God, am I turning into teh luser, or what?

"Memiors" looks like it's about to eat shit and die.  Two and a half lousy million dollars in two weeks.  THAT certainly can't be expected to keep it in theaters for very much longer.  And nothing that looks that good could possibly have been cheap to make.

See it while you can, kids.  It's worth the big screen.

Print Story Giggly at Borders....

So, after meeting Danni for lunch yesterday, we decide to pop up to Borders for a bit, being in that part of town already. It's been some months since I've been in there, and they've since rearranged and reorganized the place. So we take the escalator up to the second floor, and swing left towards the magazine section...

And on the left, where the hippy section (new age, astrology, tarot, and such) used to be, it's all gone and replaced by a huge section of english-translated Manga!!!

So, I've learned to mostly ignore the advice of slashdot nerds by now. So no laughing at me on that account. But other people... people who, until now, I considered reliable witnesses... have told me of late that linux "has made a lot of progress on the desktop" and such claptrap.

The situation:

I'm not even actually on the clock at work, about to walk out on the way to 7/11.  In comes a foreign tourist, very cute and obviously in town for pride; not as a customer, but lost, looking for directions, and without a masterful command of English.
